Torenvlietbrug Katwijk

On behalf of Boskalis, ADS carried out hydrodemolition on the Torenvlietbrug in Katwijk — 185 metres of concrete removed, reinforcement fully intact, process water 100% recycled.

The challenge

Precise concrete removal on a live bridge

On behalf of Boskalis, ADS was tasked with carrying out hydrodemolition on the Torenvlietbrug in Katwijk. At the central reservation, a 100 mm¹ layer of concrete had to be removed over a length of 185 metres. The existing reinforcement could under no circumstances be damaged. At the same time, the process water was not allowed to enter the surface water.

The process

Tight execution within narrow time windows

The work was carried out within the available time windows, in close coordination with the client Boskalis. Thanks to the combined deployment of high-quality hydrodemolition equipment and ADS's unique water treatment system, the project was completed within two weeks — entirely to the client's satisfaction.

The solution

Hydrodemolition with closed-loop water treatment

ADS removed the concrete precisely and in a reinforcement-sparing manner. The bonding surface for the new repair was excellent. Throughout the project, the process water was collected and, with the help of ADS's advanced water treatment system, cleaned (20 m³ per hour) and reused. ADS is unique in the Netherlands with this system. The entire water treatment system continuously measures all values such as solids content, pH value and the volume of process water treated, recorded in a report for the client.
