Hengelerbrug Goor

Demolishing a bridge deck while sparing the reinforcement with a 100% guarantee? ADS did it at the Hengelerbrug over the Twente canal — with three robots at once for maximum production speed.

Duration

Two weeks

Solutions
The challenge

Demolishing a bridge deck without damaging the reinforcement

The Hengelerbrug over the Twente canal was in poor condition, making maintenance necessary. The existing reinforcement could under no circumstances be damaged or replaced. At the same time, the timeframe was extremely tight, making a high production speed essential.

The process

Efficient approach within a tight time window

ADS mobilised three hydrodemolition robots simultaneously on the Hengelerbrug. Through the parallel deployment of the robots, productivity was maximised. Within two weeks the bridge deck was completely demolished to the required depth, with the reinforcement fully spared — ready for the follow-up work.

The solution

Three robots simultaneously for maximum production speed

Because of the tight timeframe, three robots were used at the same time. This guaranteed a high production speed and a demolition depth of up to approximately 100 mm¹, so that the concrete repair work on the bridge deck could be started quickly. The reinforcement remained fully intact.
